Microsurgical Varicocele Ligation – The Gold Standard treatment
Varicocele is the dilatation of the pampiniform plexus of veins of the testis. Several approaches have been advocated for the management of this complex condition (read).
But Microsurgical Ligation of varicocels remains the gold standard with the highest success rate and the lowest recurrence rate (Read).
Even in Microsurgical repair, the preferred approach is the Goldstein Subinguinal approach. It is this approach that we prefer at our center (Read).

- Varicocele microsurgery is performed in a Day care setting. You will be admitted in the morning and sent home or to your hotel in the evening. If you wish a room can be arranged for your stay in the hospital.
- The surgery is done under spinal anesthesia. You can choose to have your surgery done under sedation plus local anesthesia also.
- Surgery is painless with miniature incisions and suturing done with absorb-able sutures.
- The surgery duration is approximately 25 minutes for one side and 35 minutes for both sides.
- Post surgery you will be wearing a scrotal support and a coconut dressing.
- No urine catheter is placed. You can go to washroom after 3 to 4 hours.
- You are allowed water to drink after 30 minutes and your meal after that.
- You can have a shower on the next day.
- Your dressing is a small waterproof bandage that you can remove after 48 hours
- Stitches do not require removal and will fall on own after 14 days.
- You can fly back to home next day.

- Your follow up visit with semen analysis is scheduled after 8 weeks.
